Wunsche is one of only 18 other high-performing middle and high schools nationwide selected by both the NASSP and the CSSR to present their innovative approach to education, and how their commitment resulted in stories of successful implementation of the Breaking Ranks™ Framework strategies and techniques.
“This award honors schools that are working to transform the educational experiences of students and sustain student-centered school improvement,” said Bob Thompson, Wunsche principal. “It’s always an honor to receive an award or recognition, but it is another feeling entirely to know this award isn’t one that we applied for or sought out.”
Wunsche was selected for the prestigious award based on the school’s success and commitment to student learning, specifically the “wall-to-wall academy school and multiple pathways within each tower.”
Wunsche’s commitment to student personalization and mastery of school redesign initiatives are what made it the recipient of such honor. At the showcase in February, a Wunsche team will highlight their success during a 90 minute program, of which 20 minutes will be a facilitated conversation lead by coaches of the host organizations.
The team will share the “Wunsche approach” toward student-centered redesign initiatives that have made it a successful learning institution while the presentation itself focuses on how the academic learning approach has enhanced academic success for students and increased college readiness.
Students, teachers, administrators and community members of the Wunsche family are delighted to receive the award. Campus administrators officially made the recognition announcement last week and look forward to attending the conference.
“This award also belongs to our business partners and an entire school community that gives tirelessly of their talents and resources in order to help train, inspire and prepare our students to work beside them in their chosen industries,” said Karla Sandoval, Wunsche academy coordinator. “Everyone at Wunsche should take pride in being a part of this designation as a 2016 National Breaking Ranks Showcase School.”
The NASSP and CSSR are organizations that recognize the tireless dedication of teachers and staff who design new and innovative lessons, rework curriculum, and learn to teach in very different ways from the ways that they themselves were taught.
The NASSP is the leading organization of and voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and school leaders from across the U.S. and 35 countries around the world. It helps advance middle and high school education by providing members with professional research-based and peer-tested resources, and practical tools and materials they need to serve as visionary school leaders.
The CSSR is dedicated to making a difference in education based on the belief that all students can achieve levels of competence and personal development performance by providing stakeholders with a clear path, tools, and support for making major changes in practice – whether from traditional to transitional, or from transitional to transformational.
