As school year ends … the planning begins
HOUSTON – May 26, 2016 – As the district counts down the final minutes of the 2015-16 school year, plans for the first major event of the next school year – Welcome Back Convocation 2016 – are kicking into high gear. The event, scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, marks the start of the academic calendar and will give all district staff – nearly 5,000 employees – an opportunity to recap the triumphs of the 2015-16 school year and hear about the plans for the new year.
The convocation will be held at the MO Campbell Educational Center and will showcase the percussion section of the award-winning Westfield High School “Big Red” Marching Band, an oratory performance from a district elementary student, and a teacher as well as remarks from Superintendent Dr. Rodney E. Watson and a few other fun surprises.
The event will be hosted by DeMonica Amerson, assistant principal at Claughton Middle School, and Jaime Ilan Garza, stockman and driver from distribution services. The two were selected after a districtwide casting call for a master of ceremonies to direct the audience through the two-hour event that is designed to provide entertainment, inspiration and motivation while keeping the audience fully engaged.
The event is made possible by Platinum Sponsor Prairie View A&M University. Honda of Spring and the Spring ISD Education Foundation have also signed on to help underwrite the event. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Companies and organizations that are interested in serving as sponsors, should contact the Office of Communications at 281-891-6005 or communication@springisd.org.
