HOUSTON – May 4, 2016 – Excellence was in the spotlight during Spring ISD’s Employee Recognition Banquet at the Hilton Houston North ballroom on May 3. The opportunity to celebrate career achievements brought hundreds of Spring ISD staff members together as they recognized and honored their colleagues.
KPRC TV’s Khambrel Marshall served as master of ceremony for the event that featured awards for service anniversaries and exceptional performance from principals, teachers and staff members.
The highlight of the evening came on four wheels directly from the Planet Ford car dealership. Shawn Burns, Planet Ford general manager, awarded a brand new Ford vehicle to Chase Jones, Spring ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year, and a vacation cruise package to Francis Bugarin, Spring ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Jones teaches professional communications and exploring careers at Twin Creeks Middle School while Bugarin teaches first grade math and science at McNabb Elementary. They were among ten finalists who, after being ushered into the ballroom by their students, waited with anticipation for the surprise announcement.
Burns congratulated the teachers, and spoke to the audience of their dedication to excellence, saying it was easy to see they loved what they do everyday in their classrooms.
Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Watson remarked that Planet Ford has been bringing these big awards to Spring’s Employee Recognition Banquet for several years – an honor that is always looked forward to by the teacher-of-the-year candidates.
“It creates a lot of excitement every year among the entire staff, and certainly among the ten teacher-of-the-year finalists,” said Watson. “This is just one example of Planet Ford’s partnership with our district – we appreciate their generosity and support.”
Planet Ford also announced a $5,000 scholarship to Stephanie Luu, a Carl Wunsche Sr. High School senior who plans to attend Texas A&M University this fall.
Event sponsors – Planet Ford, Thompson & Horton, First Financial Administrators, Humana and InvesTex Credit Union – helped to make the evening memorable.
