HOUSTON – Aug. 19, 2016 – With students heading back-to-school Monday, Aug. 22 the Spring ISD administration is asking the community to show extra caution when driving through neighborhoods, especially during the times when students will be traveling to and from school. Motorists are also encouraged to re-familiarize themselves with the laws around sharing the road with school buses.
To review those laws and more, Crime Stoppers of Houston – a local nonprofit that works to solve and prevent crime in the Greater Houston Area – has released an educational flier containing tips and information to help parents and community members ensure the safety of area schoolchildren as they return for the start of a new school year.
Examples of advice from the flier include mapping out routes to and from school and practicing walking or biking the route with children before the first day of school while informing students about safe places along the route to go for help if needed. Other sections include tips on proper backpack loading, safety for pedestrians around buses and other vehicles, and seatbelt safety guidelines for car trips.
For immediate assistance or if you see suspicious or unusual activity anywhere in the district, call 281-891-6911. In an emergency, call 281-893-7473 or 911.
