HOUSTON – Dec. 16, 2016 – Some Jenkins Elementary students are heading into the winter break on two wheels today. About 50 bicycles were presented to first- and second-grade students who had perfect attendance and who received E or S grades for their classroom conduct.
The Academy Sports and Outdoors store at Spring Cypress and I-45 partnered with the school, donating, assembling and delivering the truckload of bikes to the school. Parents were invited to the school gymnasium where an impressive line of bikes were ready to be presented to the students individually.
Principal Tiffany Weston thanked Academy Sports and Outdoors for their donation and for providing a big motivation and reward for the students’ achievements. Weston also thanked her assistant principal, Wesley Vaughan for coordinating the effort with Academy.
Jason Woods with Academy told the parents that his store was happy to help recognize the great work of the students, parents and staff. “For anybody who is successful or wins, they first have to show up. Showing up for school is a great first step to being a successful adult,” said Woods.
