HOUSTON – Jan. 12, 2017 – Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Watson last week announced a number of organizational changes aimed at improving the services offered by the district to its schools and students.
“These shifts are designed to help our central administration team better support our schools,” Watson said. “The changes, which come during the second year of the district’s strategic plan, EVERY CHILD 2020, are part of an ongoing process of reviewing and refining the structure of the district’s administration and how that structure supports classroom teaching and student learning across Spring ISD’s 38 elementary, middle and high school campuses.”
Key among the changes is the designation of a single senior administrator to oversee curriculum and instruction. Dr. Lauren Topek has been appointed Chief of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the district. Having previously served as Assistant Superintendent of Special Projects, Topek’s newly created cabinet-level position will integrate resources across several divisions that had previously been operating separately.
Dr. Lupita Hinojosa, who has most recently been overseeing Curriculum and Instruction, School Leadership and Student Support Services as Chief Academic Officer, shifts her focus to become the district’s Chief of School Leadership and Student Support Services. In addition, she will oversee the development and implementation of school-related initiatives stemming from the $330 million bond referendum approved by area voters in November.
Hinojosa, who joined the district in 2014, will remain on the superintendent’s cabinet. “I’d like to personally thank Dr. Hinojosa for her leadership over the last two years,” Watson said in discussing the new roles and departmental alignments. “Many of the goals and commitments outlined in our strategic plan, EVERY CHILD 2020, have been accomplished due to her dedication, drive and work ethic.”
Also joining Hinojosa’s team is Kimberly Fonteno, transitioning from Workforce Development Officer to School Leadership Officer.
