HOUSTON – Feb. 2, 2017 – The NFL Play 60 Challenge, sponsored by the Houston Texans and the American Heart Association, invited two Spring ISD elementary schools, Cooper and Eickenroht – two of 18 schools that were invited – to attend the Super Bowl LI Kids Day NFL Experience.

Last year, the schools participated in a four-week program to encourage students to be active for 60 minutes a day in order to help reverse childhood obesity. Cooper Elementary placed seventh in the nation and third in the state based on 358,223 active minutes recorded by the students.

As a reward, 280 fourth and fifth graders, from both schools combined, were invited to take part in the Kids Day at NFL Experience from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 1 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The exclusive event was closed to the public, giving an all-access experience for the students.

”The kids were extremely excited,” said Detrick Jones, Cooper Elementary coach and physical education teacher. “For some, they may never experience something like this again. They were able to see their hard work payoff.”

All students learned about healthy living and interacted with the NFL Experience activities, including football-themed games and an NFL Play 60 fitness class hosted by award-winning singer and actress Jordin Sparks.
