<p>HOUSTON – Feb. 10, 2017 – Over two dozen students showcased their spelling skills to a full house at the 2016-2017 Spring ISD Spelling Bee. More than 160 campus staff and family members were on hand as Roberson Middle School’s Lucille Rixner was named champion for the second consecutive year.</p>
<p>Rixner took the win during the 11th round after correctly spelling “olympian,” and Bammel Middle School’s Bethany Johnson came in second to claim the role of alternate by correctly spelling the word “lucid.”</p>
<p>The champion now moves on to compete in the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on Saturday, April 1. The final rounds will be broadcast on Houston Public Media TV, Channel 8. The event will also be live streamed at <a href=”http://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/spellingbee” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>www.houstonpublicmedia.org/spellingbee</a>. The two top spellers from that event will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in the Washington D.C. area.</p>
<p>The following Spring ISD students competed with Rixner and Johnson at the district-level spelling bee for the opportunity to advance.
