HOUSTON – Feb. 1, 2017 – KPRC TV Channel 2 morning anchor Owen Conflenti brought a camera crew and a big check to Spring High School to surprise senior Cameron Cooper with a $2,500 scholarship. The KPRC/Texas Mattress Makers Scholarship Surprise is a program that awards deserving area high school seniors with a scholarship.

The television crew, along with Spring High School Principal Diaka Carter, surprised Cooper during his Anatomy and Physiology II class. After his classmates cheered his award, Cooper told the crew that he hopes to study biology at Texas State University after graduation.

Cooper is a linebacker for the Spring Lions, volunteers at his church and is involved in the school’s Navy JROTC program. Conflenti said he always looks forward to meeting the students as he hands them the scholarship.

“I love it. I love it so much. I mean – the smiles on their faces – it’s just unbelievable. You realize the hard work they do. I’m just proud to be a part of it,” said Conflenti.

The segment recorded by the KPRC TV crew, aired during Wednesday’s early morning newscast.
