HOUSTON – May 23, 2017 – Three bus loads of sixth, seventh and eighth graders brought their talents to the stage at Fallbrook Church for the Wells Middle School 2nd Annual Fine Arts and Electives Extravaganza. Over 200 community members gathered to see performances from the school’s performing and visual arts program, including band, choir, theater and dance. Electives such as Spanish and Career and Technical Education classes were also on display.
Amanda Byers, an art teacher and parent engagement liaison at Wells, said the school staff and students have been working on the program since September. “We have a little bit of everything,” Byers said. “We just wanted to represent our entire electives department and show the community what we are doing.”
The result was a showcase of student performances, as each elective was introduced with a short video of the staff and students highlighting their subject area.
The community had a chance to take a piece of the show home with them. During intermission, a silent auction of student artwork kept the audience busy. Byer said the money raised from the auction goes back to the students who leave with a little spending money for the summer, and are really proud to be able to sell their artwork.
Wells staff and students expressed appreciation to Fallbrook Church for the opportunity to place their skills under the spotlight once again.
