HOUSTON – June 12, 2017 – Work is underway on the Safe Routes to Schools project in Spring ISD that is being coordinated by Harris County Precinct One. Although wet weather has slowed the process, construction work continues on sidewalks and ramps that will serve students who attend Clark Intermediate, Cooper Elementary School, Eickenroht Elementary, Hoyland Elementary and Thompson Elementary. Construction of sidewalks and pedestrian ramps near Booker Elementary School and Dekaney High School began in February, and has since been completed.
“The safety that these neighborhood sidewalks will provide our students and their parents is invaluable,” said Spring ISD Chief Operations Officer Mark Miranda. “We appreciate Precinct One for including our schools in this project.”
Most of Spring ISD is located in Harris County Precinct Four, however a portion of it rests inside Precinct One where the construction of new sidewalks is taking place. Precinct One is also building sidewalks in the Houston, Aldine and Pasadena school districts.
“Ensuring that students get to and from schools safely is a top-priority for every district,” Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis said. “I am proud to assist these four districts in adding another layer of protection for these precious youth.”
