HOUSTON – Sept. 7, 2017 – Spring ISD announced that all students returning to school when classes resume on Monday, Sept. 11 will be offered free lunches along with the free breakfast that is always available.
“The free lunches for all students will be in effect through Friday, Sept. 29,” said Shelly Copeland, Spring ISD child nutrition director. “After that, those who normally pay for lunch will be asked to start providing payment moving forward. As in the past, breakfast is free for all Spring ISD students, every school day, and will remain free the rest of the school year.”
This district is able to provide the free lunches due to a waiver offered by the Texas Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to districts located in counties covered by the Presidential Disaster Declaration.
Families that have not yet applied for free or reduced-price meals, are encouraged to do so online at SchoolCafe.com, or they may complete a paper application that is available at every school office.
“We sincerely hope that none of our families have been displaced by the storm, but we also know that is not likely. Families who have been displaced are asked to notify their school office as soon as possible,” Copeland said.
