HOUSTON – Sept. 8, 2017 – The Spring ISD Board of Trustees voted at the Board Work Session on Sept. 7 not to hold a trustee election in November because candidates for each open position are unopposed. Incumbent Rhonda Newhouse, position five, and Winford Adams, position four, will be sworn in and take office in December.
At the work session, Spring ISD Chief of Staff Julie Hill introduced Trustee Elect Adams and recognized Trustee Newhouse for returning for another term. “We will be looking forward to the opportunity for you to join us formally in December,” Hill told Adams.
The seven trustees are elected for rotating three-year terms. Elections are held on the first Tuesday in November if there is more than one candidate running for a position. Under state election law, the district has the option to cancel the trustee election if the contestants are unopposed, which will save thousands of dollars in election costs.
As specified by state law, a notice of application deadline is posted annually in June, giving individuals a window of time from mid-July to mid-August in which to file. This is followed by another period of time for filing a declaration of write-in candidacy. For more information, go to www.springisd.org/board.
