Cast and crew members of Westfield High School’s production of “The Old Settler” celebrate after learning they would advance to the UIL Area One-Act Contest.
HOUSTON – March 29, 2018 – On the heels of advancing past the Zone, District and Bi-District competitions, the Westfield Theatre Company’s Mustang Players are fine-tuning their one-act play – John Henry Redwood’s “The Old Settler” – and brushing up on their cues as they get ready to take the show to the Area UIL One-Act Play Contest this weekend.
In preparation for the area-level competition, the troupe is giving Spring-area audiences a one-night-only, pay-as-you-wish opportunity to see the award-winning production at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, March 29, at the Westfield High School Performing Arts Center, 16713 Ella Blvd.
Westfield Director of Theatre Monet Salone is hoping that supporters of the drama department – both at Westfield and from around the district – will come out and show their support for the production and the competing students, several of whom are graduating seniors making some of their final appearances on the Westfield stage.
“The Westfield High School Theatre Department competed against a number of schools in the Zone B, District and Bi-District 16-6A UIL One-Act Play Contest, and we’re thrilled to be advancing to the area level,” Salone said. “Congratulations are in order to all of our extremely talented students who have represented Westfield with pride, skill, honor and professionalism. They’ve shown a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication.”
Up next for the Mustang Players, after Thursday’s community performance, is the Area UIL One-Act Play Contest, beginning at 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 31, at College Station High School, 4002 Victoria Ave., College Station, TX 77845.
That competition performance is also open to the public (for a $5 admission fee), and supporters are welcome, Salone said, to come cheer the troupe on in College Station on Saturday.
Thursday evening’s performance of “The Old Settler” will last approximately 40 minutes. For additional information about the department, and to learn about current and upcoming productions, visit the Westfield Theatre Company website.
