HOUSTON – April 2, 2018 – On the heels of advancing past Zone, District, Bi-District, and Area competitions, the Westfield Theatre Company’s Mustang Players are fine-tuning their one-act play – John Henry Redwood’s “The Old Settler” – and brushing up on their cues as they get ready for the Regional UIL One-Act Play Contest on April 14.
Westfield Director of Theatre Monet Salone was grateful for supporters of the drama department who came out to performances last week to show their support for the production and the competing students, several of whom are graduating seniors making some of their final appearances on the Westfield stage.
“The Westfield High School Theatre Department competed against a number of schools in the Zone, District, Bi-District and Area levels of the 2017-18 UIL One-Act Play Contest, and we’re thrilled to be advancing to the Region level,” Salone said. “Congratulations are in order to all of our extremely talented students who have represented Westfield with pride, skill, honor and professionalism. They’ve shown a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication.”
The Region-level Contest, hosted by Waco ISD, is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., Saturday April 14, at University High School, 3201 South New Rd., Waco, 76706. That competitive performance is also open to the public for a $10 admission fee, and Salone said supporters are welcome to come cheer the troupe on as the Mustang Players vie for a spot at the UIL State Meet April 25-26.
