HOUSTON – Dec. 12, 2018 – Two Spring ISD Board Trustees, who ran unopposed in the November General Election, were sworn in to new terms of office at the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Dec. 11, followed by the election of board officers for 2019.
Trustee Donald Davis, was re-elected to Position 6, and Trustee Jana Gonzales, was re-elected to Position 7. Both will serve three-year terms.
Board President Rhonda Newhouse presented each of them with a certificate of election, which was followed by a swearing-in ceremony conducted by Spring ISD Legal Officer Jeremy Binkley.
“Congratulations again, Jana and Don. We really appreciate your hard work on behalf of our students,” said Newhouse.
Davis was first elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2015. A retired Spring ISD teacher with more than 15 years in the classroom, he is most known for his time as director of Westfield High School’s award-winning JROTC program. He also serves on the Spring ISD Education Foundation board of directors and has volunteered on several district committees, including the Supporting Our Scholars mentoring program. Davis is a retired captain of the U.S. Army.
Gonzales was first elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2006 and re-elected in 2009, 2012 and 2015. She currently represents the Board on the Spring ISD Education Foundation Board, and has served in numerous volunteer capacities for Spring ISD, including a leadership role in the long-standing Spring Tri-Club that hosts the Spring Livestock Show and Sale and is a past director of the Spring ISD Education Foundation. In addition, she is the parent of two Spring High School alumni.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, the Board elected officers for 2019. Newhouse was re-elected to her second year in the position of president. Gonzales was elected vice president; Davis was elected board secretary; and Winford Adams Jr. was elected assistant board secretary.
