HOUSTON — April 30, 2019 — Spring ISD will celebrate employee excellence and honor outstanding educators this Thursday, May 2 at its annual Employee Recognition Banquet, which will also see two teachers go home either with a car or cruise.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to say thank you to our employees who make a difference in the lives of our students through their hard work and commitment,” said Deeone McKeithan, Spring ISD chief of human resources. “This is my favorite event of the year because it really is all about celebrating the people who make Spring ISD a great place to work and learn.”
This Thursday’s banquet, to be held at the new Houston CityPlace Marriott at Springwoods Village, is the culmination of the district’s Teacher of the Year competition, in which each campus selects a winner. Among a pool of nearly 40 teachers, 10 educators — including five elementary and five secondary teachers — are then designated as finalists by a district committee and invited to attend the event.
This year’s 10 finalists are:
- Cheryl D. Wilson – Anderson Elementary
- Kandra Woods Gunter – Dekaney High
- Rodney Schmitz – Early College Academy
- Patricia Rivera – Jenkins Elementary
- Sarah Mallette – Reynolds Elementary
- Nils Taft – Salyers Elementary
- Courtney Rice – Thompson Elementary
- Eboni Jenerette – Twin Creeks Middle
- Jeanette Love – Wells Middle School
- Christi Adamick – Westfield High
The highlight of the banquet will be the presentation of a new car and a fully paid cruise to those two teachers named Spring ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year and Spring ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. The prizes are made possible through the generosity of Randall Reed’s Planet Ford.
The two winning teachers will then represent Spring ISD in the regional Teacher of Year competition.
Serving as emcee of the event will be Khambrel Marshall of KPRC Local 2. In addition to celebrating the Teachers of the Year, other highlights of the banquet will be to recognize Rookie Teachers of the Year, Principals of the Year, Employee Excellence award winners and employees with service anniversaries.
