HOUSTON – May 29, 2019 – Area employers came to Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, looking for new full- and part-time employees, and they were met by more than 100 eager seniors who came with questions and resumes in hand.
At a corner table in the school’s large conference room, Kevin Boyle from Amazon spoke with a steady stream of interested seniors as he offered information on everything from careers to summer jobs.
“It’s always great talking to students, everyone has a different path, I just want to figure out where they want to go, and then it’s just connecting the dots,” said Boyle. He said that he was impressed with the drive of the students and their focus on the future.
While some of the students were a bit nervous meeting potential employers, senior Chynna Richards said the experience that she had gotten from her school made her feel ready. Early in the school year, community volunteers helped Wunsche hold simulated job interviews to give the students an idea of what to expect. The school’s business partners also regularly interact with the students and acquaint them with the business world.
“We did something similar at the beginning of the year for our mock interviews… so I’m just really prepared. I feel like I’m already grown up,” said Richards.
