HOUSTON – May 31, 2019 – Children under the age of 18 who live in the Spring area will have the opportunity to enjoy free breakfast and lunch through the Spring Independent School District’s Summer Feeding Program beginning Tuesday, June 4 through Thursday, June 27 at 12 campuses across the district. Eight campuses will continue to operate through July 16, and two campuses will open from July 8-25. The program will operate Monday through Thursday as the district will be closed on Fridays during summer break and also on July 4 to observe Independence Day.
Children age 18 and under are eligible and do not have to be enrolled in summer school or show proof of income to receive a free meal at the participating schools. Adults may also participate by purchasing breakfast for $1.50 and lunch for $3.50 each.
“We want our families to know that just because school out does not mean that their children need to go without free, nutritious meals,” said Shelly Copeland, Spring ISD Child Nutrition Director. “Our summer feeding program is open to all of our students, whether they are enrolled in summer school or not, and we encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The summer feeding program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). All meals are based on national nutrition standards to ensure children receive the appropriate nutrients to maintain a balanced diet.
