HOUSTON – Nov. 4, 2019 – Spring ISD is kicking off its school choice awareness campaign by offering daily tours of its four specialty schools for families of fifth and eighth graders who are looking at secondary school options for next year.
Tours will be available daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 through Friday, Nov. 8 at the following campuses: Roberson Middle School, Spring Leadership Academy, Carl Wunsche Sr. High School and Spring Early College Academy.
“We want our families to have choices as they look for the right fit for a secondary school experience for their child,” said Dr. Lupita Hinojosa, Spring ISD’s chief of School Leadership and Student Support Services. “For both middle and high school students, we offer great specialty programs that provide a rigorous and engaging educational experience. We hope our families will take advantage of these tours to learn more about the unique programs at each of these four campuses.”
The district’s school choice awareness campaign comes ahead of the annual application window to apply to these specialty schools. This year, all applications will be completed online in a process set to open later this month.
Hinojosa said this week’s campus tours offer an opportunity to learn more about the district’s specialty schools so families have the information they need to decide what programs they want to apply to. Students who will be sixth graders next year have the option of either Spring Leadership Academy or Roberson Middle School. Incoming ninth graders can apply to either Wunsche or Spring Early College.
In addition to the tours, all four campuses are also scheduling special showcase nights to provide yet another opportunity to introduce families to their programs. That schedule is as follows:
- Wunsche High School Showcase Night: Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
- Spring Early College Academy Showcase Night: Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
- Spring Leadership Academy Showcase Night: Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
- Roberson Middle School Showcase Night, Thursday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
“We look forward to seeing our families during the tours and at the showcase night,” Hinojosa said. “All four of these speciality schools have wonderful programs that we want to make our families know about.
Creating opportunities and choice for Spring ISD secondary students is part of the district’s strategic plan, Every Child 2020.
