HOUSTON – Jan. 7, 2020 – Fifth-grade students and their parents will have three opportunities to “Get the Scoop” on what Spring ISD comprehensive middle schools have to offer, including tours of the facilities, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 16 and 23, and 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30. Middle schools participating in the Get the Scoop days are Bailey, Bammel, Claughton, Dueitt, Springwoods Village, Twin Creeks and Wells.
“We want our rising fifth-grade students and parents to experience first-hand all the possibilities that are available to them for learning and growing both academically and socially at their zoned middle school campus,” said Dr. Lupita Hinojosa, chief of school leadership and student support services.
On the two morning events, parents are invited to check their students out of their elementary school in order to visit the middle school where they are zoned to attend next year. A note will be provided to return to school after attending the showcase. Families who aren’t sure which middle school they are zoned to, can contact their current elementary school or go to infofinder i tool at springisd.org.
Parents are asked to sign up in advance, using a digital form located for their convenience on both their current elementary school and zoned middle school websites. Or they may call their child’s elementary school counselor to register.
Information will be provided on how to use the 2020-21 Spring ISD Middle School Education Planning Guide for sixth-grade course selections, including both academics and electives, as well as career exploration. The EPG is located on district and campus websites, but printed copies also will be available at the Get the Scoop events.
In addition, students and their parents will learn about the various extracurricular and co-curricular activities that enrich the middle school experience – band, dance, choir, visual arts, theater, athletics and clubs.
“We have so much to offer our students at our comprehensive middle schools,” Hinojosa said. “Our campus administrators and staff are looking forward to showcasing their schools, answering questions and generally making parents and students feel welcome.”
