HOUSTON – April 27, 2020 – Spring ISD prekindergarten and kindergarten online registration for the 2020-21 school year opens April 27. Pre-K students will need to be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020 and meet Texas Education Agency eligibility requirements. Students who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020 and are not enrolled in Spring ISD PreK this year may also pre-register.
This will be the first year that full-day prekindergarten has been offered at every elementary school, and the district is hoping parents will take advantage of early registration to enroll their children.
“We have been preparing for the move to full-day Pre-K classes across the district for several months,” said Chief of School Leadership and Student Support Services Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “Although we always welcome and are eager to enroll students anytime, this preregistration will help us know how many students will be enrolled and enable us to better prepare and plan for the coming school year.”
To register for prekindergarten or kindergarten and for more information, including eligibility requirements and Frequently Asked Questions, parents should go to www.springisd.org/prek. District staff will be available to assist parents in both English and Spanish with the online registration, if needed, by calling 281-891-6337.
In addition to districtwide full-day prekindergarten classes, the district is offering the Dual Language program to prekindergarten students at Clark Primary. New kindergarten students at Northgate Crossing and Hirsch elementary schools, will also have the opportunity to enroll in Dual Language.
Spring ISD’s Dual Language program provides instruction for native English speaking and native Spanish speaking students, with the students receiving instruction in both languages. This model aims for bi-literacy, bilingualism, high academic achievement in two languages, and multicultural understanding for all students.
“We are pleased to be offering additional opportunities and choices to our families this coming school year, and we invite parents and guardians of rising Pre-K and kindergarten students to take advantage of this opportunity to preregister,” Hinojosa said.
