HOUSTON – May 29, 2020 – Spring ISD seniors are invited to take part in a special event to celebrate the Class of 2020 being sponsored by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner at Planet Ford Stadium, on Friday, June 5, starting at 6 p.m.
The celebration is a collaboration among area school districts, including Aldine, Alief, HISD, Spring Branch and Spring. The event will feature a star-studded video tribute from a number of national and local celebrities from music to sports to food and fashion, including 50 Cent; astronaut Chris Cassidy; actress Chandra Wilson; Houston Texans’ JJ Watt; Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles; rapper Slim Thug and a host of others.
This one-of-a kind experience is the brainchild of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, who will deliver his own words of encouragement to the Class of 2020.
“The 2020 high school senior class has achieved a major milestone during what is certainly one of the nation’s most challenging times in recent history,” said Mayor Turner. “They have sacrificed and endured, and I am so proud of every one of them. That is why I have asked the city of Houston, along with some extraordinary personalities to come together to honor these amazing students with a unique and special celebration.”
All seniors attending will be required to wear face coverings and adhere to social distancing guidelines. The gates to Planet Ford Stadium will open at 5:30 p.m. with a pre-show set to start at 6 p.m. featuring a DJ, Spring ISD dancers, cheerleaders and special messages from principals, school administrators and Spring ISD trustees.
The Mayor’s event will follow at 6:30 p.m. Parents, family members, friends and the general public are invited to participate virtually.
Spring ISD seniors who are interested in attending will need to show their student ID and enter using the entrance off Cypresswood Heights Drive. Spring ISD Police will be on hand to help direct traffic and ensure that all safety protocols are being followed.
For planning purposes, students are asked to RSVP. Remember, no heels will be allowed on the football field and no bags of any type will be allowed in the stadium.
The special video tribute will air or stream live on most Houston media outlets. For more information on the Mayor’s event, please visit www.Houston2020Seniors.com.
