Spring ISD is scheduling new dates for its in-person graduation ceremonies, following guidance issued earlier this week by the Texas Education Agency that allows such events to occur outdoors.
The Class of 2020 in-person graduation ceremonies will all occur at the district’s Planet Ford Stadium according to the following schedule:
- Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m. – Spring High School
- Saturday, June 13 at 8 a.m. – Carl Wunsche Sr. High School
- Saturday, June 13 at 7 p.m. – Dekaney High School
- Sunday, June 14 at 8 a.m. – Spring Early College Academy
- Sunday, June 14 at 7 p.m. – Westfield High School
Because some graduates and their families may choose not to take part in an optional, in-person event at this time, the district is also proceeding with its virtual graduation, which will take place as originally scheduled on Saturday, June 6. During that event, Superintendent Rodney E. Watson will confer diplomas to those seniors who have met all the requirements set forth by the State and each school’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian will provide video remarks. In addition, graduating seniors will be able to see, save and share their personal graduation slide.
“It’s our hope that these two ceremonies — one virtual and one in-person — will ensure that all Class of 2020 graduates and their families have the opportunity to celebrate this important milestone,” Watson said. “By moving the in-person ceremonies from July to June, we also feel that more students will be able to take part without interrupting summer plans.”
More details about each graduation ceremony will be shared in the coming days.
