Elementary and middle school students in Spring ISD who “chill out and read” over the Winter Break might return to school in January with a brand new Kindle.
As part of the yearly “Chill Out and Read” program, students can log onto the myON app on the Spring ISD student portal, and read more than 6,000 books from Dec. 17 through Jan. 3.
“As students spend more time at home over the holidays, we want them to continue widening their horizons by discovering new things and places through reading,” said Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Workforce Development Dr. Matt Pariseau. “Books are the best way for students to engage with the entire world, and we are excited to see what new worlds they discover over Winter Break.”
There are several Kindle e-readers up for grabs, as students compete in two categories: total time spent reading and total number of books read. A winner will be selected after January 3 in both elementary and middle school.
Students can join the “Chill Out and Read” program by logging onto the myON app at my.springisd.org; remember to use the student name and password to get credit towards winning a prize. Books are available in both Spanish and English, and only books read between December 17 and January 3 count towards the challenge.
