Beginning in August 2024, Spring High School – Spring ISD’s original comprehensive high school and newest School of Choice – will begin offering the Middle Years Programme Framework as part of its status as an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school, welcoming students accepted as freshmen at the ninth-grade center campus.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme crosses disciplinary, cultural, national and geographical boundaries, providing an inquiry-based approach that champions critical thinking; a global, real-world mindset; ongoing engagement with complex issues and ideas; and meaningful relationships with fellow scholars and instructors.
The Middle Years Programme Framework at Spring High School – to be offered as a “school-within-a-school,” with a limited number of seats all requiring an application – will expand on the district’s existing IB offering at Springwoods Village Middle School, which became Spring ISD’s first-ever authorized IB World School in 2021, following an extensive application and review process conducted by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Spring High School is currently designated an International Baccalaureate Candidate School, with official IB World School status pending.
“We’ve seen tremendous interest in our International Baccalaureate program ever since its launch at Springwoods Village Middle School, and we’re thrilled as a district to begin offering students the opportunity to take part in the Middle Years Programme Framework at the high school level,” said Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “With so many Spring ISD students already getting so much out of this program, now is a perfect time to expand it in order to provide a fuller version of the IB Organization’s vision while equipping our students for success in a global society.”
The IB Middle Years Programme Framework at Spring High School is open to prospective students from any campus who are entering ninth grade in 2024-25 through the Spring ISD School Choice application and lottery process. Spring High School will also continue to welcome all zoned students. Zoned students are not required to complete an application in order to enroll at the campus, although they must still apply if they wish to take part in the Middle Years Programme Framework. Interested parents and students can attend the campus’ showcase event being held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Spring High School (19428 I-45 North, Spring 77373).
After the launch next school year, Spring High School is expected to expand as the first cohort progresses, ultimately covering grades 9-12 and allowing seniors the chance to complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, recognized by universities and organizations around the world as a sign of excellent preparation for higher education and real-world success.
