Spring Independent School District has again been recognized by the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) with a 2024 Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations and the 2024 TASBO Award of Excellence in Financial Management.
The award is presented to Texas school districts and education service centers that demonstrate commitment to following professional standards in the purchase of goods and services. Spring ISD was recognized as one of 77 recipients in Texas to receive the recognition by TASBO.
Each year, volunteers with the TASBO Purchasing & Supply Management Research Committee
evaluate the award criteria to ensure it represents the latest best practices. They then review new and recertification applications.
“We’re proud of the work our honorees do to streamline school purchasing operations, comply
with regulations, and set the standard for how to utilize taxpayer dollars,” said Tracy Ginsburg,
TASBO Executive Director. “These organizations have not only demonstrated their professional acumen by documenting their districts’ policies and procedures but have also shared these best practices with colleagues throughout Texas.”
Spring ISD’s Financial Transparency
Spring ISD Procurement Services Executive Director Phillip Ellison said receiving the award is a testament to the level of professionalism within Spring ISD’s Procurement Services Department.
“Receiving this award annually, for the past 14 years, is our yearly test to ensure we maintain our processes and procedures and can be considered best in class among public school districts in the State of Texas,” Ellison said.
Rhoda Johnson, Spring ISD Executive of Financial Services, said it is an extreme honor to be recognized by TASBO for the fourth consecutive year.
“The Award of Excellence in Financial Management is a testament of the hard work and dedication of the Spring ISD Financial Services team–understanding the ‘why’ of our duty that is built upon pillars of strong collaborations, policies, procedures, processes, timelines and the pursuit of excellence,” Johnson said.
Ellison, Johnson and members of the Procurement Services team were recently honored on Feb. 21 at an awards reception sponsored by BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative during the 2024 TASBO annual conference in Houston.
