High school students from Spring Independent School District’s Youth Action Board program – a student-led anti-human trafficking program designed to engage, educate, and empower students to become part of the solution in the fight to end trafficking – is set to receive notable accolades in recognition of its hard work and commitment to raising awareness of human trafficking on school campuses or in the community.
Denise M. Mears, Founder and Executive Director of Project Protect Our Children, has announced plans to honor these dedicated students with a celebratory luncheon, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 6 at TeachUp in Spring ISD (15651 I-45 North, Houston 77090).
“We are eager to commemorate the efforts of these young leaders by presenting them with awards that reflect their unwavering dedication,” Mears said.
The YAB members will be receiving awards from Gov. Greg Abbott and Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. Additionally, they will be bestowed with the Champion Award from Project Protect Our Children and the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for eligible recipients.
“Recognizing our students with these prestigious awards not only highlights their exceptional contributions but also underscores the importance of their dedication to making a positive impact in our community,” stated Dr. Lupita Hinojosa, Superintendent of Spring ISD. “We are incredibly proud of these young leaders who embody the spirit of service and leadership that we strive to foster across all Spring ISD campuses.”
Project Protect Our Children
, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating child sex trafficking and exploitation, was founded in 2019 by Denise M. Mears. The organization is dedicated to preventing child sex trafficking, exploitation, and abuse through proactive community engagement, preventative educational programs, awareness, and empowerment opportunities.
“Through proactive community engagement and awareness, we aim to arm our youth with the tools they need for prevention and self-protection. Our vision is a world where every child can grow free from the threat of exploitation and abuse,” Mears stated.
