Although campuses around Spring ISD were quiet this summer as students and teachers enjoyed a summer break, several campuses saw continued work throughout the summer with new floors and paint installed as a part of the 2022 Bond projects.
Most recently, at Smith Elementary, the entire school got refreshed paint on walls throughout the building – including hallways, classrooms, the gym, and the library – as well as brand-new floors throughout campus. The paint reflects the school’s black, gray, and red color scheme.
The floors, which were previously carpeted, now feature updated flooring that will better withstand daily traffic. Improvements include brand new hardwood flooring in the school’s gym.
Smith was just one of the schools starting the new school year with improvements. Several schools, including Claughton Middle School, Heritage Elementary, Hirsch Elementary, and Lewis Elementary, received new flooring over the summer. Cooper Elementary received a paint refresh. And new paint and flooring have been installed at Bammel Elementary, Bammel Middle School, Jenkins Elementary, as well as Smith Elementary.
The work is part of the ongoing $850 million bond program, which was approved by voters in November 2022.
Although the bond does include several marquee building projects, these smaller-scale projects and refreshes are also a major part of the bond.
“Although we are all excited about the many large-scale projects in the design and planning phases, we are also excited about these projects that will have an immediate and lasting impact on our students across the district,” Spring ISD Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa said. “Projects like these paint refreshes and flooring replacements, as well as safety and security upgrades, technology improvements, maintenance projects, and other design improvements are what make this bond so robust.”
