This Saturday, Spring ISD administrators, Board of Trustees members, teachers, and community volunteers will gather at the district’s Momentum High School to target students and families in need and share resources the district offers.
The district’s annual Success Walk is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, starting at 8 a.m. at Momentum High School (14450 T.C. Jester Boulevard) before volunteers fan out across the district’s neighborhoods.
Each year, the Success Walk aims to directly reach out to those students who may have not yet returned to class this year or who are struggling with attendance. The outreach is a part of the district’s EVERYday Counts, Attendance Matters campaign, committed to helping students and families understand that going to school every day and avoiding absences whenever possible is critical to achievement.
The all-volunteer event helps to connect students and their families with the resources available through the school district, including transportation, free meals, childcare, and more. A phone bank will also be conducted to reach out to students and families over the phone.
“Our main goal in Spring ISD is to give equitable access to quality education to all of our students, regardless of what they may be dealing with outside of school,” said Spring ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “Our annual Success Walk is a vital part of making that happen. We offer a vast number of resources throughout the year, and this annual event helps to spread the word. From after-school programs and free meals to alternative and personalized curriculum programs, we offer the things students need to succeed and we want to help them in whatever way we can.”
The event is kicking off at Momentum High School, which is itself a unique resource for students who might need an alternative to the traditional middle school or high school experience. The campus features smaller classes, personalized learning plans, accelerated credit recovery, and career training opportunities, all tailored to help students graduate on their own timeline.
Saturday’s event will kick off at Momentum High School at 8 a.m. with a roll call of all schools across the district, as well as speakers from around the district. After the short program, volunteers will canvass neighborhoods across the district to help spread the word on available resources.
