Spring ISD elementary and middle school students are invited to embark on a summer filled with imagination, learning, and literary adventures through the district’s Journey Into Reading program. This year’s theme, “Unearth the Stories Within You,” encourages students to explore new places, cultures, and ideas—all through the pages of a book.
The program will officially kick off on Monday, June 1, with a splash with a Summer Kick-Off Foam Party at the Barbara Bush Library (6817 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX), where students will enjoy bubbles, laughter, and the joy of community. The celebration will mark the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable summer full of reading and discovery.
“This summer reading program is about more than books, it’s about opening doors to opportunity, imagination, and lifelong learning,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar. “When students continue reading throughout the summer, they strengthen critical literacy skills, build confidence, and stay connected to learning in meaningful ways. We want every Spring ISD student to return in the fall inspired, prepared, and ready to succeed.”
Families are also encouraged to visit the Barbara Bush Branch Library, where students can access even more reading materials and enjoy special events. The library is open to all Spring ISD students who want to beat the heat and dive into a great book.

Students can choose to read from a variety of materials—traditional print books, eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, and even magazines—offering something for every interest and reading level. In addition to reading, students can attend other fun and educational events at the Barbara Bush Library to earn bonus points. To receive credit for attending the events, please get your passport stamped from a Barbara Bush staff member at the event.
Elementary and middle school students will compete in separate divisions, and recognition will be given at both the campus and district levels. Each campus will honor one English winner and one Spanish winner per grade span.
Those campus winners will then move on to the district level, where the top scorers in each grade band and languages will be crowned district champions in August. There will be up to six district winners.
