For the 13th consecutive year, Spring ISD has been named among the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).
The national recognition honors school districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing students with access to comprehensive, high-quality music education programs.
“What makes this recognition especially meaningful is what it represents,” said David Tijerina-Landgrebe, Spring ISD’s director of Performing and Visual arts. “It reflects students singing in choirs, performing in bands, color guard and mariachi ensembles, learning guitar and piano, creating music through industry-based classrooms, and discovering confidence, discipline and joy through the arts.”
The award recognizes districts that prioritize music education through strong program funding, qualified staffing and demonstrated student success. To qualify for the designation, districts complete a detailed application covering music participation, instruction time, graduation requirements, facilities, community support and program access. Responses are reviewed and verified by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
For Spring ISD, the recognition reflects a longstanding commitment to ensuring students have opportunities to explore and develop their talents through music at every grade level.
From elementary music classrooms to middle and high school performance ensembles, students across the district participate in a variety of programs, including choir, band, orchestra, mariachi, color guard, piano, guitar and industry-based music courses. These experiences help students build creativity, collaboration, discipline and self-confidence while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
“This recognition belongs to our students, teachers, campus leaders and families,” Tijerina-Landgrebe said. “Their dedication, passion and support make it possible for music education to thrive in Spring ISD. We are grateful for the continued commitment of our Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar and district leadership to ensuring the arts remain an important part of the student experience.”
