The Spring ISD Education Foundation raised $90,000 for student scholarships, classroom grants, and other educational initiatives during its 24th annual Tee Up for Education Golf Tournament at Northgate Country Club.
The tournament, which is the largest fundraiser hosted by the foundation, brought together 120 golfers, consisting of business leaders, community partners, and public education supporters on this beautiful, sunny day to raise funds for students and teachers in Spring Independent School District.
Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar said the tournament highlights the role community partners play in supporting students and educators.
“Students are at the center of why we’re all gathering as a community today. Everything that we’re doing today and every day is always going to be for kids,” Cuellar said.
Cuellar also recognized the foundation’s contributions to the district, including financial assistance for students pursuing higher education and resources for teachers and classrooms, expressing gratitude for everything they do to support the district.
“There’s no I in team, and certainly, this was a team effort,” said Sandra Harper Scott, Executive Director of the Spring ISD Education Foundation. Scott credited the tournament’s success to the combined efforts of sponsors, donors, volunteers, and district leaders. She also thanked the Spring ISD Board of Trustees, Dr. Cuellar, and district staff, as well as golf committee co-chairs Jeff West and Lott Johnson.
“We had several returning and first-time sponsors, without whom we could not have had a successful event. We also received donations for the Education Foundation’s Teacher’s Closet, which will be a resource for Spring ISD teachers to help with items for their classroom needs or to help their students,” she added.
The tournament’s lead sponsor Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott LLP and presenting sponsor H-E-B were also on hand for the big day, and were more than willing to show up for the community.
“We care about the students and what we’re doing here,” shared Justin Barlow, attorney at Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP. “We get to be a part of the community and we care about what we’re doing here. It’s rewarding work, and we’re just so happy we get to be able to support some of the great things that the district is doing.
Melissa Rowland, Assistant Service Manager at H-E-B, shared a similar sentiment, explaining that partnerships with organizations such as the foundation allow businesses to support schools and provide resources for students and educators.
“We want to make sure that all of our students are set up for success for the future,” Rowland said. “This is so wonderful because the students are going to grow up remembering the people who supported them, and they’re going to succeed and eventually give back to the community as well.”
Kirksey, an architecture firm working with the district, served as the hole-in-one sponsor at the eighth hole, offering golfers a chance to win $10,000. Jodi Sergi, the firm’s Partner and Director of PK-12, shared that Kirksey proudly participates in the tournament annually.
“We’re excited to participate every year,” Sergi said. “We love working with the district and have some projects right now with Spring ISD, so we always want to be out here supporting the students and teachers in whatever way we can.”
The funds raised through the tournament will help the foundation continue its work supporting students and teachers throughout the district, extending the impact of community partnerships beyond the golf course.
Though the tournament is successfully in the books, there are always opportunities for community members to contribute throughout the year. More information about donations, scholarships, and classroom grants is available at www.springisdfoundation.org.
