For 20 Spring ISD students, a recent trip to Washington, D.C. became a classroom without walls as they traded desks for discovery and experienced democracy firsthand. The students, all members of the Spring ISD Board President Justine Durant’s President Leadership Cohort (PLC), traveled to the nation’s capital June 8-11 through Spring Votes, the district’s nonpartisan civic engagement program, and the Close Up Foundation, a nationally recognized organization that has inspired young people through experiential learning for more than 50 years.

The line started forming before the program even began. Parents with little ones in tow, students in their school shirts, campus staff, and longtime community partners wound through the lobby of the Randall Reed Community Center, each waiting for a turn to shake hands with Spring ISD’s new Superintendent, Dr. Kregg Cuellar, and snap a photo to mark the moment.

En una votación unánime celebrada durante su reunión ordinaria del martes por la tarde, la Mesa Directiva del Distrito Escolar Independiente de Spring nombró oficialmente al Dr. Kregg Cuellar como el próximo superintendente de escuelas del distrito. Su contrato se firmó durante la reunión, tras el periodo de espera obligatorio de 21 días desde que fue nombrado finalista único el 18 de agosto.

In a unanimous vote at its regular board meeting Tuesday evening, the Spring ISD Board of Trustees officially appointed Dr. Kregg Cuellar as the district’s next superintendent of schools. His contract was signed during the meeting following the mandatory 21-day waiting period after being named Lone Finalist on Aug. 18.
