HOUSTON – May 10, 2016 – The Spring Independent School District recently received a 2016 Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. This places Spring ISD among 476 school districts out of 13,515 nationwide that have received this distinction this year.
The designation recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who collaborate to guarantee that all students have access to music education as part of the school curriculum.
“It is a great honor for our district to receive this designation again. It is encouraging to know that our commitment to music education for all students is being recognized at a national level,” said Joe Clark, Spring ISD performing and visual arts director.
The NAMM Foundation, with the assistance of researchers at The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas, evaluates participants based on these factors:funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, community support, participation and access to music instruction. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education. For more information, go to www.nammfoundation.org.
