HOUSTON – Jan. 3, 2017 – Spring Independent School District is joining school districts across the nation and using the month of January to acknowledge and celebrate the local volunteers who serve as school board members.
“Our board members devote hundreds of unpaid hours to ensuring that our schools have the resources needed to help our more than 36,000 students reach their academic and personal goals,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney E. Watson. “Although we always try to acknowledge board members for their service, this month is a special time. If you have not already done so, feel free to reach out to them personally and let them know how much their hard work and dedication mean to the Spring ISD community.”
A special presentation, including a performance by Claughton Middle School’s drama department, is planned for the regular board meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10. The meeting is open to the public.
Spring ISD board trustees are elected for rotating three-year terms and are empowered by the Texas Legislature to govern and manage public schools. Although elected to numbered positions, trustees represent the district as a whole, not a specific geographical area.
