Items Will Later be Donated to a Food Bank for Those in Need

HOUSTON – Feb. 9, 2017 – The CANstruction team at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School needs canned goods – at least 1,000 cans — to compete in this year’s Skills USA CANstruction competition April 5-8 in Corpus Christi.

“CANstruction is an event we have participated in for the past several years, and is an event that my students love to compete in,” said Tiara Woods, architectural design and drafting teacher.

The students are reaching out to the community for donations that will not only help them with their project but will eventually feed those who are in need. When the contest is over, all the canned goods used in the competition by students from across the state will be donated to Food Bank of Corpus Christi.

“We are planning to build a free-standing, seven-foot-tall football, so 16-ounce cans of Bush’s baked beans would be awesome,” Woods said, “although we will gladly take whatever donations our community would like to contribute.”

The students need can goods donated right away for them to practice with, as they are currently calculating the exact number of cans necessary and the structure they will need to build to support the weight of the cans.

Donations can be dropped off during school hours at a designated location in the front foyer of the school, located at 900 Wunsche Loop, Spring, 77373.
