HOUSTON – Sept. 15, 2017 – Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, a career academy in Spring ISD, will accept online applications for the 2018-19 school year Oct. 1-31. The academy administration is holding information meetings for eighth- and ninth-grade students who are interested in attending the school next year. 

Since opening in 2006, Wunsche has been recognized as a leader in providing Spring ISD students with access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, real-world experience, rigorous coursework, and mentor and internship opportunities. 

The academy integrates core academics with career pathway exploration in the areas of engineering, computer technology, oil and gas production, construction management, welding, legal studies, culinary arts, and the medical and veterinary sciences.

In addition, students are able to earn college Advanced Placement credit, dual credit and articulated credit, therefore getting a head start on their postsecondary education.

Application and Admission Process

The application process is open to any current eighth- or ninth-grade Spring ISD student. Families will need to complete an application and select a first and second choice from the available career pathways. A lottery-based selection process will be used for each pathway during the spring semester. To be eligible for the lottery, all applicants must meet the minimum standard established for the Records Review and Admission Interview components of the process. Parent Sessions

To help answer questions and familiarize parents with the application process as well as the school’s programs, parent information meetings are being held during the day at every district middle school, with evening sessions scheduled at the academy. Two evening meetings are scheduled at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, 900 Wunsche Loop. These meetings are open to all interested eighth- and ninth-grade students and parents.
