HOUSTON – April 17, 2017 – The 66th Annual Spring Livestock Show and Fair raised $124,880, including live and silent auctions, private sales and add-on donations. This year’s show consisted of hundreds of projects entered by more than 130 Spring ISD students involved in FFA and Family Career and Community Leaders of America at Dekaney, Spring, Westfield and Carl Wunsche Sr. high schools as well as students in Spring 4-H.
“Thanks to the support of our employees, community members and business partners, the Spring Livestock Show and Fair was a big success again this year,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Rodney Watson. “Their generous donations to the Spring ISD Stampede buyers group made it possible for us to purchase the Grand Champion Steer along with several other student projects. Not only do the proceeds of the sale directly benefit our students, but the livestock purchased will impact the Spring community as it is being processed and donated to local ministries to help feed the hungry in our area.”
Community members had several opportunities on the last day of the three-day event to support the students involved in the program, including the live auction that raised $93,500. Buyers could also choose to donate additional money for students’ projects that had already been purchased. The money students earn at the show is used to finance future projects and continue their education. Additionally, the Spring Tri-Club, a 501(c)(3) organization that sponsors the event, uses funds raised at the fair to provide graduating seniors with scholarships.
