The Spring ISD Transportation Department is observing National School Bus Safety Week Oct. 16-20 by emphasizing and raising awareness of bus safety rules and guidelines that will help keep children safe.
“Although school buses are considered to be the safest form of transportation on the road, we still need everyone involved — drivers, students, parents and motorists — to be aware of bus safety rules and practice them both on and around our buses,” said Keith Kaup, Spring ISD transportation director.
To make it easy for parents, the Transportation Department has provided Bus Safety Tips for Parents and Students that will keep students safe while walking to and from the bus stop, waiting at the bus stop, riding on the bus and finally getting on and off the bus.
In addition, the district added 60 new buses to its fleet this fall, each equipped with three-point-harness seatbelts, and students are asked to buckle up when this safety option is available.
”We encourage families to review these tips to make sure students clearly understand the steps they can take to stay safe, especially when traveling to and from their school bus,” Kaup said.
