HOUSTON – Dec. 6, 2017 – Spring ISD fifth-grade students who may be interested in attending Dr. Edward Roberson Middle School next year will have the opportunity this month to learn more about the district’s nontraditional middle school of choice.
Roberson counselors will host fifth-grade parent meetings Dec. 8-20 at selected campuses across the district to share information with parents about the school’s focus on math, science and the fine arts as well as the three-phase application and lottery selection process.
“We are looking for students who enjoy participating in engaging activities that stimulate their curiosity and motivate them to work hard,” said Tracey Walker, Roberson principal.
She said the application process is designed to assess each applicant’s desire to attend the academy and ensure that students admitted to the school are successful. The process includes: Phase 1 – a records review; Phase 2 – in-person interview, audition and teacher recommendation; and Phase 3 – a random lottery.
Spring ISD fifth-grade students who want to apply may submit applications to their elementary school counselors Jan. 9 – Feb. 9. Applicants zoned to Spring ISD but not currently attending a Spring ISD elementary, along with children of employees residing either in or outside the district, may submit applications in person or by email directly to Louise Shaw, RMS registrar, at lshaw@springisd.org.
The application form will be posted on the Roberson website for downloading and printing prior to the application time period and copies will also be available at all Spring ISD elementary schools. Only applications that are fully completed and submitted by Feb. 9 will be considered.
