Accepting Applications for 2018-19 School Year Oct. 1-31
HOUSTON – Sept. 25, 2017 – Spring ISD eighth- and ninth-grade students who are interested in attending Carl Wunsche Sr. High School next year, and their parents, will have two opportunities in October to see the campus and learn more about the career academy. A parent information meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, and the annual Academy Showcase will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19.
“The showcase will give families an opportunity to tour our nationally recognized school and see our career pathways in action,” said Principal Andria Schur. “The academy will be accepting online applications for the 2018-19 school year Oct. 1-31, and both these events have been planned to help families be fully informed when they make their decision to apply.”
Since opening in 2006, Wunsche has been recognized as a leader in providing Spring ISD students with access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, real-world experience, rigorous coursework, and mentor and internship opportunities.
The academy integrates core academics with career pathway exploration in the areas of systems engineering, computer technology, oil and gas production, construction management, welding, criminal justice, culinary and pastry arts, dentistry, emergency medical technician, hospital administration, pre-law, nursing and veterinary studies.
In addition, students are able to earn college Advanced Placement credit, dual credit and articulated credit, therefore getting a head start on their postsecondary education.
Application and Admission Process
The application process is open to any current eighth- or ninth-grade resident of Spring ISD. Families will need to complete an application and select a first and second choice from the available career pathways. A lottery-based selection process will be used for each pathway during the spring semester. To be eligible for the lottery, all applicants must meet the minimum standard established for the Records Review and Admission Interview components of the process.
