HOUSTON – March 8, 2018 – Spring ISD was one of two districts to receive the Elite Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations at the annual conference awards luncheon of the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) March 2.
Spring ISD was recognized in the large district staff category and Saginaw ISD was recognized among small district staff. In total, TASBO recognized 30 school districts for following best practices in the area of purchasing operations at the event.
“There’s no better way to achieve professional purchasing operations than to share best practices throughout the state and document your district’s policies and procedures,” said Tracy Ginsburg, TASBO executive director. “And each year we honor two districts for demonstrating exceptional purchasing operations with an elite designation. We could not be more pleased with the growing recognition of the important work all of our honorees do to streamline operations, comply with regulations and set the standard for how to utilize taxpayer dollars.”
Spring ISD Chief Financial Officer Ann Westbrooks said the recognition of the district’s Procurement Department provides another way to measure the quality of its work in supporting students and teachers. “School district purchasing isn’t often in the headlines, but it’s so important to the operation of our schools, whether we’re buying books, cafeteria commodities or technology,” she said. “It’s important that purchasing is done in a way that’s transparent and timely.”
