Students may go on vacation, but for the Spring ISD Police Department, the summer season is time for additional and often stressful training.
An empty Claughton Middle School campus was the practice site this week for dozens of Spring ISD police officers as they worked with other area law enforcement agencies and fire departments to actively deal with threats inside a building.
Teams worked to identify and locate mock threats as they moved into the building while encountering individuals with simulated injuries. The scenarios are not real but are made to feel realistic. These teams were also practicing coordinating the arrival of additional responders just as they would have to do in real life.
This type of exercise evolves constantly to stay current, and while the district officers train year-round, the summer season offers increased opportunities to train in a campus environment. Additional campus simulations are planned for later in the summer.
