Approximately 150 business partners, faith-based leaders, and community members gathered at the Spring ISD Community Engagement Center Thursday for the district’s Business Partner Consortium Luncheon.
The Spring ISD community was well represented, with those professionals in attendance representing their business, community agency, church, university, or non-profit organization who support the students and families in the district.
Attendees were provided with a folder with information about the district, the VATRE, and from the Family and Community Engagement Department’s programs and events. Family and Community Engagement Executive Director Tranita Carroll welcomed everyone and introduced Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. She recognized many of the long-standing partners in attendance and welcomed all of those new to Spring ISD.
The superintendent opened the meeting sharing critical priorities for Spring ISD. She provided an overview of the district’s finances and why the Spring ISD Board of Trustees has decided to hold a Voter Approval Tax Rate Election, commonly called “VATRE.” The VATRE allows the school district to seek voter approval to increase its maintenance and operations (M&O) tax rate, generating additional revenue for expenses like salaries and programs.
Chief Financial Officer Ann Westbrooks provided detailed information and participants were given an opportunity to ask questions for clarification. Many stayed to network with one another and share opportunities to support the district with district leaders.
