Educators from across Spring ISD filled the classrooms and hallways of Dekaney High School on Monday for the launch of this year’s Summer Teacher Extravaganza — a three-day experience filled with inspiration, learning, and connection.
“Our Summer Teacher Extravaganza was a vibrant celebration of growth and collaboration, where we dedicated ourselves to building a foundation for success,” said Dr. LaTracy Harris, Spring ISD Interim Chief of Academics. “We’re committed to providing our educators with top-tier opportunities, through key sessions on the core curriculum and essential tools, so they can step into the new school year confident, prepared, and ready to thrive from day one.”
Hosted by the district’s Professional Learning department, the annual event invites teachers from all grade levels and campuses to come together ahead of the school year for professional development, networking, and reflection. The goal of the event was to give educators the tools, confidence and community they need to hit the ground running when students return in August.
“We’re here because you are the difference-makers,” said Dr. Monique Lewis, Spring ISD Executive Director of Professional Learning, in her welcome message to teachers. “We are here for our students, and being here will help you become better for them.”
That message carried through the day’s opening session, which began with music, cheers, and a shared sense of energy in the room. Spring ISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar addressed the crowd with a message of encouragement and emphasizing the power of teachers to create impact despite evolving challenges in education.
“Teaching is one of the most powerful and impactful professions,” Cuellar told the crowd. “The work you do is at the heart of this organization’s success, and your presence here today reflects just how vital you are to our mission.”
Throughout the morning, Dr. Cuellar also revisited Spring ISD’s central theme for this year, Together in Culture, Together in Accountability.
“Creating a strong, positive culture and holding high standards is a team effort,” Cuellar said. “Our shared focus is on giving every student a top-quality education in a safe, student-centered environment. And it’s because of your dedication and heart that we’re able to make that vision a reality.”
During the event, teachers rotated through multiple breakout sessions designed to support effective instruction and student success. Topics included small-group learning, student behavior supports, lesson design and collaborative planning all of which are centered around Spring ISD’s instructional framework.
“I love everyone’s enthusiasm for teaching,” said Idalis Lopez, a first year Pre K-4 special education teacher. “I love seeing the whole community of teachers and educators have that commitment to Spring ISD.”
While the workshops, speakers, and raffle giveaways are designed to support teachers professionally, at its core the Summer Teacher Extravaganza continues to remind educators that they are seen, valued and equipped for the road ahead.
