Spring ISD voters did not approve the district’s Prop A Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) on Nov. 3, with 45% voting in favor and 55% opposed.
If approved, Proposition A would have generated approximately $15.5 million in additional funding to help address rising operational costs, support teacher and staff compensation and maintain essential student programs. Without the additional revenue, the district will continue evaluating how to prioritize and allocate existing resources.
“While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, I remain optimistic and encouraged by the level of support we received from our community,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar. “The fact that 45% of voters supported Proposition A tells me that we are moving in the right direction, but we also recognize that earning and maintaining our community’s trust is an ongoing responsibility. We have important work ahead, and our commitment to students remains unchanged.”
In the coming weeks, district leaders will focus on listening to community feedback, understanding voter perspectives and identifying opportunities to strengthen relationships with families and stakeholders.
Spring ISD extends its appreciation to everyone who participated in the election and remains focused on providing students with meaningful educational opportunities while responsibly managing district resources.
