During a special-called session on June 23, the Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the district’s 2026-27 operating budget, totaling $500.8 million, a financial plan designed to support students, employees, and district operations while maintaining fiscal responsibility amid ongoing financial challenges.

During a special-called session on Tuesday, the Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a contract extension for Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar through 2031, reaffirming its confidence in his leadership and commitment to the district’s continued progress.

The action comes less than a year after Dr. Cuellar was named Superintendent of Schools and follows a year marked by academic gains, organizational improvements, and a renewed focus on accountability, student achievement, and customer service across the district.

For 20 Spring ISD students, a recent trip to Washington, D.C. became a classroom without walls as they traded desks for discovery and experienced democracy firsthand. The students, all members of the Spring ISD Board President Justine Durant’s President Leadership Cohort (PLC), traveled to the nation’s capital June 8-11 through Spring Votes, the district’s nonpartisan civic engagement program, and the Close Up Foundation, a nationally recognized organization that has inspired young people through experiential learning for more than 50 years.

Cheers echoed and camera flashes lit the arena as 2,140 Spring ISD seniors crossed the stage at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center, capping a weekend-long celebration that stretched across three days and six ceremonies. Students from Spring High School, Westfield High School, Dekaney High School, Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, Spring Early College Academy and Momentum High School each had their moment in the spotlight — tassels turning, names called and diplomas earned.
