HOUSTON – Jan. 27, 2016 – Dr. Edward Roberson Middle School will begin its fifth-grade student selection process for the 2016-17 school year with an information night for parents and students from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the school. Recruitment will continue through Feb. 26 – the deadline for students to register – and end with the selection lottery on March 10.
In the meantime, Principal Tracey Walker said the school administration has planned plenty of opportunities for students and their parents to learn more about the nontraditional middle school. The academy is designed for students in sixth through eighth grades that have a strong interest in one or more of the math, science and fine arts areas.
“We have planned two showcase nights that will feature live performances and exhibits to demonstrate the school’s unique characteristics,” Walker said.
The showcase nights will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 for students whose last names begin with the letters A through L and Feb. 16 for students whose last names begin with M through Z, although Walker said parents will be welcome to attend either night that best fits their schedule.
Additionally, Roberson school counselors will be visiting each elementary campus during the school day to answer any questions that fifth-graders might have and to accept and confirm their registration.
