HOUSTON – Feb. 24, 2017 – A group of juniors from the Spring Early College Academy built a lot of career awareness during a visit with a local construction company. Brookstone Construction recently hosted the students at their headquarters in northwest Houston before taking them on a tour of one of their active construction sites.

Dr. Rene Garganta, Spring Early College Academy principal, said field-based experiences were of vital importance to his students.

“We like getting them out to see things in the real world. We hope that they can make connections to some of the things that they are learning now in the classroom,” said Garganta.

The students visited with several people at Brookstone, representing a wide variety of career pathways such as accounting, project management, human resources and marketing, who helped the students make those important real-world connections to what they have been learning at early college.

“I just finished taking a class in project management last semester, and I’m about to take a class in accounting. Now I know for sure that this is something that I do want to pursue in the future,” said Deana Ali, Early College student.
